AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley was left scratching his head at the referee after “several strange” decisions on Saturday.

It did not detract his praise for the Dons after two Lyle Taylor goals, including a penalty, saw off Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 at Adams Park.

The win keeps the Dons tantalisingly close to the League Two play-offs, sitting four points off with seven games to play, and a game in hand on all but Portsmouth above them.

Next up is a trip on Saturday to automatic promotion hopefuls Plymouth Argyle, where Ardley will be hoping for a more orthodox refereeing performance.

He said: “I think the ref gave them [Wycombe] some helping hands and kept giving them as many free-kicks as they could handle, but we defended them.

“It was a clear-cut penalty, but I was stunned that the referee did not send their guy off.

"As far as I am concerned, Rhys Murphy has rolled him, he’s about to go through one on one on goal, and he’s been pulled down, it’s a clear-cut penalty and it’s a professional foul.

“Whether you think there’s a covering defender or not, Rhys is one on one with their keeper, and about to put it into the back of the net.”

He added: “That was one of several strange things that happened.”
