Neal Ardley has set his forward-thinking AFC Wimbledon stars a collective target of 65 goals, and they have gone a long way to hitting that in the past three games.

The Dons have hit nine goals in the recent games against Morecambe, Accrington Stanley and York City – with Lyle Taylor leading the way on three.

However, Ardley is not concerned with individual targets – instead he wants the players to unite in the pursuit of a team goal.

He said: “It is not about who scores the goals, we’ve said that we’re not looking for a 20 goals per season striker – that would be a bonus.

“We’re looking for the front players to work together, for the wide players to work with the central midfielders.

AFC Wimbledon boss hails all-round performance

AFC Wimbledon: Francomb and co are looking up the table

“To anyone who is a part of that dozen or so players, we have set them a target of 65 goals minimum.

“Who scores the goals doesn’t matter, who plays the assists doesn’t matter and who wins the ball back that starts an attack that leads to a goal doesn’t matter.

“It’s about them as a group scoring the goals, and the more than goes on, the more unselfish they will get and the more they will play for the team.”

AFC Wimbledon, 12th in the League Two table, entertain Hartlepool, in 19th, this weekend.

The Dons have lost Sean Rigg to a dead leg, which Ardley believes will not keep him out of action long, while Adebayo Akinfenwa, who missed the trip to York with a thigh injury, is more a of a concern.
