George Francomb wants to turn two into three this weekend, and the AFC Wimbledon winger can see multiple benefits of being successful.

The Dons host Hartlepool this weekend, looking to build on consecutive away wins over Accrington Stanley and York City.

It is the first time this season the Dons have recorded back-to-back victories, and it lifted them to 12th in the League Two table.

Another three points tomorrow could put the Dons within shooting distance of the play-offs, but Francomb has other reasons to keep the good form going.

“Back-to-back away wins within the space of five days is decent, and the changing room was buzzing afterwards so we’re looking forward to Hartlepool at home,” the 24-year-old said.

“But if we can go three wins on the bounce that would hopefully push us up a couple of places towards the play-offs.

“It would also be great to be a on a good run of form in the league going into the FA Cup.

“We also need to make sure we get the three points against Hartlepool bearing in mind what we did last time at home [lose 5-2 to Morecambe].”

AFC Wimbledon: Ardley’s target to forward thinkers

Whether the Dons can lay that ghost to bed this weekend could come down to the narrowest of margins.

And the winger knows only too well the importance of making the most of any breaks that come their way.

“If you look back at the games we’ve played this year – some of the games we’ve lost we did not deserve to lose, and some of the games we’ve drawn, we should have taken our chances,” he said.

“It’s true to say you’re only as good as your position in the table, but I honestly believe we should be higher up the table based on our overall performances.”

He added: “There is a thin line between getting a result and not – even in the Morecambe game.

“I know we’ve conceded five goals, but at 3-2 we were pummelling them and thinking we’re going to get an equaliser here at least and take a draw, but two late goals on the counter-attack means it looks like a terrible performance, when it was not the case.

“In comparison to the past two seasons, our consistency in performance has probably been the best.

“I think we’re close to being a very good team in this league, we have the players to do it and if we can turn two back-to-back wins into three this weekend, then we’re looking up again.”
