On a night of disappointment, it was Andy Barcham who came closest to salvaging a point for AFC Wimbledon.

The Dons led Cambridge United 1-0 at the break on Tuesday night, and if their first half display was anything to go by, they were destined to record back-to-back League Two wins.

However, United fought back with early goals in the second half to steal a 2-1 win.

It could have been different in the dying moments when Barcham connected with a George Francomb cross, only to see the goalkeeper pull off a worldy save.

Barcham said: "I thought I did everything right, I went for the corner and I headed it down.

AFC Wimbledon: Ardley keeps the belief after night of disbelief

"[Neil] Cox said it was one of those ones where if I don’t get a good contact it goes in.

"It was a great ball from George, that’s what he is all about, he put it on a plate for me.

"I was so disappointed I could not put it in, but the keeper has pulled off a great save, although that is not good for our cause."

Barcham and co take the long journey to Carlisle United this weekend.
