Dons boss Neal Ardley is sweating on Will Nightingale's fitness after the centre-half injured his knee against Newport County.

Nightingale left the CRRS on crutches after being replaced at half-time by Mark Phillips on Saturday.

The 19-year-old is expected to find out the extent of the injury today.

Ardley said: "Will Nightingale had to come off and we will have to have a look at that.

“We have a couple of injury concerns. George Francomb has a tight hamstring as well as the injury to the centre back [Nightingale] and we will have to keep an eye on that.”

Nightingale has earned plaudits from Ardley since forming a centre-half partnership with Adedeji Oshilaja last month.

The academy product and the on-loan Oshilaja have stepped into the heart of the Dons defence after injuries to Jake Goodman, Alan Bennett, who has since left the club, and Andy Frampton.

Nightingale's absence comes before a run of seven games in 28 days for the Dons - starting with a trip to Burton Albion on Tuesday, and Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.
