Neal Ardley praised his AFC Wimbledon side’s resilience as they withstood heavy pressure to draw 1-1 at Morecambe in League Two.

An early strike from Jake Reeves was cancelled out in the 40th minute by Morecambe’s Padraig Amond as the two mid-table teams settled for a share of the points.

Saturday’s result means Dons are unbeaten in two outings having previously lost four on the bounce, and Ardley was keen to highlight the positives of the performance.

The boss said: "This was a tough place to go, they're a good team and they don't lose many games and they've come at us.

“We had to dig in and show different skills.”

Ardley claimed his side was the better team in the first half, but was frustrated as they missed the chance to move above Morecambe to 11th after a poor second half.

Dons now face a difficult home match against play-off chasing Newport County and will have to improve on Saturday’s hit and miss display.

"We didn't really get our transition from defence to attack right, there were loose passes and the ball kept coming back because we didn't get that right,” said Ardley.

"I think we over-played in the first half. There were times we had passages of play and we ended up with no end product, and we probably turned down several opportunities to put good crosses in the box.”

However, Ardley will take heart from Newport’s poor recent run of form which has seen them lose three on the bounce without scoring, while conceding eight goals and falling to sixth in the table.
