After two thoroughly deserved wins over Gillingham and Plymouth Argyle this week, AFC Wimbledon travel to Oxford United’s Kassam Stadium looking to extend an unbeaten run to five games.

It sounds simple in principle, but this is Oxford United, and our record against them makes for dire reading – unless you’re an Oxford fan.

The curse of the Kassam has plagued Wimbledon for years, but if we are finally going to get one over on them, now feels like the time.

While we’re not perfect, our displays of late have resembled that of a team finally getting its collective head around League One.

That extra spark has been found and the atmosphere around the club feels more positive.

Speculation this weekend will surround Neal Ardley’s starting XI.

Paul Robinson and Darius Charles both put in excellent shifts against Gillingham, and Dean Parrett and Andy Barcham in midfield caused the opposition all kinds of problems and deserve a starting place, subject to the injury latest on the former.

Tom Elliott must start at Oxford. Against the Gills he won every header and 50/50, his selflessness and determination is quickly making him a fans’ favourite.

If Ardley’s selection headache was already hard, it should now be even harder with Tom Beere staking his claim.

Beere slotted into the squad seamlessly and made an instant positive impact.

He is no longer a future prospect, he’s here now as a squad member on merit.

Add Alfie Egan’s sterling performance in midweek to the mix and it’s clear our academy system is paying dividends.

With all our strikers having found the net in the last two weeks, the central defenders clearing the ball properly, midfield getting tighter and stability between the sticks, is it time we finally get one over Oxford?
