AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley hailed his strike-force after a second consecutive victory on the road at their League Two play-off rivals.

The Dons followed up the win at Wycombe Wanderers with another 2-1 scoreline on Saturday, this time at Plymouth Argyle.

Lyle Taylor opened the scoring with his 18th goal of the season, and after the hosts levelled in the second half, Adebayo Akinfenwa came off the bench to head home a late winner.

Ardley said: “At 1-1 we would probably have settled for a point because it was a tough game and we were never totally comfortable at the back.

“But the strikers can win you games from that position – we have five good strikers and they are worth their weight in gold.

“Lyle Taylor had one chance and he scored, and Adebayo is probably the only person who has the strength to hold off the defender and power a header from that distance.”

He added: “There was real quality in Lyle’s goal – Jake Reeves’ defence-splitting pass and the timing of Lyle’s run was excellent.”

The result lifted the Dons into the play-off berths ahead of Crawley Town’s visit to the Cherry Red Records stadium this weekend.

However, Ardley is not looking too closely at the table, rather just their points total.

He said: “The initial goal was for one win out of the Wycombe and Plymouth games, so to get that at Wycombe took the pressure off a little at Plymouth.

“But I am not looking at the teams around us in the table, we just know if we can get above 72 points [Dons are on 62] then someone else is going to have to go on an excellent run to get above us.”
