It has been an eventful week for Sutton United both on and off the pitch, with two great results alongside an FA charge.

I don’t think it is fair on the players to focus on the off pitch matters however.

What must be said is that the performances in our two trips down the Kent last week were both absolutely fantastic in different ways.

The performance at Maidstone in the first 15 minutes or so was scintillating and despite the red card, which in all honesty was probably harsh given Maidstone goalkeeper Worgan’s behaviour, Maidstone only really threatened from the long throw, and the goal they did eventually score was a mishit cross.

Margate were weaker opposition, but United still had to do a job on a horrible rainy day.

The two-goal lead that was set up in the first half was thoroughly deserved and despite a slight bit of pressure from the hosts in the second half another two late goals were scored to wrap up an emphatic 4-0 win.

These late goals may have more use in the long run than just making the game more comfortable – the title race really is so tight it could come down to goal difference.

Dan Wishart deserves a special mention this week for his goal; a sublime combination of perfect touch, powerful run and calm finish to put the icing on the cake in stoppage time.

Tonight’s game at home to Bishops Stortford is massive now, with the Ebbsfleet game of course to follow at the weekend.

A win on Monday night will shift the pressure firmly to the visitors on Saturday, if they didn’t already have enough of it on them from their wage bill.

Let’s make sure as supporters we do our bit and give the players the vocal backing they deserve for the final four games
