Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Alan Dowson has revealed he could not match the offer made to young defender George Wells to quit the Beveree.

The 19-year-old, who attracted Football League scouts to Hampton last season, had been offered a new deal at the Beavers, but instead agreed a switch to Kingstonian over the weekend.

But Dowson, who signed Dulwich Hamlet's Michael Kamara last week and is also in the market to sign Hemel Hempstead Town defender Moussa Diarra on a permanent basis, believes Wells' exit does not derail his plans.

"I would have liked George to stay, but I am not holding out much hope," said the manager last week.

"I think he has got a better offer from somewhere else, so I am assuming he'll be on his way.

"Apart from that, everything is looking fine for us."

Wells is the latest to put pen to paper at Kingsmeadow as Ks boss Tommy Williams looks to build a squad capable of breaking into the Ryman Premier League play-offs this term.

"I'm really pleased to have signed George. He is an attacking left back who's got huge potential," said the former Ks midfielder.

"At 19 years old he has good Ryman experience and is hungry to do well.

"He had interest last season from Football League clubs and I'm looking forward to helping with his development."
