Despite finishing higher up the football pyramid than ever before, Sean Rigg says AFC Wimbledon have underachieved this season.
The Dons’ hopes of clinching a play-off spot faded in the second half of the season – and then disappeared completely as they failed to pick up a win in their last eight matches, including four straight home draws.
They also failed to win away from home since beating Portsmouth on Boxing Day and winger Rigg, who bagged five league goals, knows they should have finished higher than 15th in the table.
A Womble's View: AFC Wimbledon face a summer of evolution, not revolution... which is nice
AFC Wimbledon boss cannot quite laugh in the face of Cheltenham Town draw
“Everyone thinks we have underachieved. On paper, our squad looks really good and we should have done a lot better,” he said.
“We need to strengthen over the summer and we will have that edge in front of goal that we lacked in the past couple of months.
“But it has been an improvement this year which is a good thing.”
He added: “We got a good squad together that we can take into next year and hopefully improve on our finish yet again.”
The Dons’ season ended with a “story of the season” 1-1 draw at home to already relegated Cheltenham Town.

The hosts created several chances throughout the game but struggled to find the net as they have done for most of the season.
Neal Ardley’s side have lacked a goal scorer since the departure of Matt Tubbs in January, leaving Rigg wanting more fire-power up front.
“We need to strengthen that. We have been playing well in between the boxes but it’s in the boxes where we have been getting it wrong,” he said.
“We have got to be more clinical in front of goal.”
