Kingstonian must reverse a season of missed opportunities if they are to secure a place in the Ryman Premier League play-offs.

Boss Tommy Williams’ men head to fifth-placed rivals Met Police on Saturday, knowing victory could set them up for a run at promotion to the Conference South.

Defeat on the other hand would see them six points adrift of the top five with only seven games to go.

And Williams knows time is running out for his side to grasp the play-off nettle.

“We’ve got eight games to go so there is not a lot of room for error,” he said.

“We have to make sure we take this opportunity to get up there.

“We have missed opportunities like this during the course of this season and we cannot afford that again.”

He added: “I still believe that if someone wants to string a run together between now and the end of the season they can get that fifth spot.

“We’d like to be that side. The team that does that, gets to the play-offs in good form and that puts them in good stead for a promotion push.”

Williams is set to welcome back midfielder Steve Laidler for the match from the suspension that saw him miss Saturday’s 2-1 triumph over Witham Town, which came thanks to goals from Josh Casey and Pelayo Pico Gomez.

The latter struck the winner inside the final 10 minutes and Williams would be delighted if he did the same again at the weekend.

“I’ve worked with Pico before and I know the quality he can bring to the side,” he added.

“His performances this season have been good. He is technically very strong.

“He could probably have scored more goals, but he is in double figures and, hopefully, he’ll add one or two more between now and the end of the season.”

Blues boss Jimmy Cooper is expecting a spectacle from two good footballing sides on a decent playing service at Imber Court.

He felt his side deserved more from a 2-1 defeat at play-off rivals Hendon on Monday, a game that featured a goal from new signing Ronayne Marsh-Brown.

“We’ve been without a bit of leadership and, hopefully, Ronayne will give us that,” said Cooper.

“I cannot remember a game of this significance between two teams from this area.”

And Williams was equally aware of the game’s importance to the Ks.

“This is probably the biggest game of our season,” he added.

“If we lose, getting to the play-offs is not impossible – just harder.”
