Kingstonian star Josh Casey might be forgiven for wondering what to do come three o’clock this Saturday when he misses his first league match of the season.

The 23-year-old was knocked unconscious in the opening 15 minutes of last weekend’s 1-0 win at play-off rivals Leiston after getting a bicycle kick to the head.

Casey had played every minute of every one of Ks’ 33 Ryman Premier League games this season until leaving the weekend's action prematurely and is set to miss this Saturday’s visit of Wingate & Finchley.

"I don't really remember too much about it. All I know is I saw it coming," said Casey.

"The Leiston player went to bicycler kick it and I just got to it before him.

"Our physio said I was out cold for about 30 seconds. The ambulance men who treated me said it was the worst cut from a football match they had ever seen.

"I've been told I will be out for anything between two weeks and a month.

"I will definitely miss this week, but with some protective head gear I should be able to play next week.

“It is weird not playing, because I have played every minute of every league game this season.

“With our play-off push warming up I don’t want to miss any games.”

Casey, one of Kingstonian's best players this term, has always maintained boss Tommy Williams' men could mount a play-off assault.

The club's current form of three defeats in their past 14 games has them four points adrift of fifth place and the former Salisbury City midfielder is just hoping they have not left things too late.

"I don't like to say I told you so, but I've always thought we were a decent run away from the top five," he added.

"The top three or four places are sewn up, but fifth place is still up for grabs.

"Other teams have got games in hand on us, but there will be some strange results with teams fighting against relegation and scrapping for promotion.

"To Tommy's credit he has stuck by the core squad and hopefully we are starting to repay that faith.

"Our away form is the best in the league and it looks like we have turned our home form around.

"We went on a run to get there last year and we can still do it this year. On paper, our run in is not the hardest. I just hope we have not left it too late."
