Sutton United and Gavin McCallum endured a night of frustration at Hayes & Yeading, where a 0-0 draw saw them lose ground at the top of the Skrill South table.

A 6-0 win for leaders Eastleigh over Dorchester extended their lead to seven points, while Bromley, in second, when down 2-1 at Staines - but they remain five points ahead of United.

Prior to lastweekend's 0-0 draw at Dorchester, McCallum had bagged four goals in five outings, earning the praise of boss Paul Doswell along the way.

However, last night the striker had to endure the overly close attentions of Hayes keeper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz as United drew a second consecutive blank.

McCallum said: "I told the referee in the first half that the goalkeeper was shoving me at corners but I think he just did not want to give anything because he was under pressure.

"Even in the second half the keeper was still pushing me but the ref just was not interested."

He added: "It did not happen for us in the first half, but we were better in the second half but the ball would just not drop for us - it was a frustrating night.

"Now we have to look forward to Saturday, it's two draws, we haven't lost and we've not conceded a goal."

With Doswell set to return from holiday today, Micky Stephens was in charge and he made just one change to the weekend with Jamie Slabber returning to the bench in place of Chinua Cole.

Hayes, struggling just above the relegation zone, had the better of the early exchanges in a scrappy first half.

After the break, United stepped up a gear and Jamie Taylor should have won all three points but the striker fired wide when through on goal.

United could not break down a Hayes team that had little on their mind other than playing for a point, and as the referee refused to clamp down on some extraordinary time wasting, there was little United could do.

This weekend, United host Bath City and they will be without Dale Binns who is suspended for one match, while Charlie Clough is available having served a two-match ban.
