Woods cruelly denied by shower

Woodmansterne will be hoping for better luck from the heavens this weekend after being robbed of victory by showers against Old Tiffinians last Saturday, writes David Clisby.

It was typical of Woods’ luck this season that they were denied despite being in a commanding position.

Having decided to field, Anderson and Wells took the bew ball and soon reduced Tiffs to 40-4, including a superb direct hit run out by Richard Knight.

With the opening bowlers exhausted, Squires and Wortley took over to take five wickets between them (including one lightning leg side stumping by Prior) as Tiffs slumped to 139 all out, with Anderson finishing off the tail.

Tiffs took the field with the sky looking menacing and Clisby and Conway opening the batting.

They cruised to a decent start, and although Clisby then played over a straight one and Conway was strangled down the leg-side, Woods were looking good for a win. However, two short interruptions due to heavy showers began to eat into Woods' time to reply: Richard Knight biffed his way to a run a ball 48, but, with Woods on 116-4, with potentially 32 overs in hand the heavens opened, and the game had to be abandoned as an entirely disappointing draw.
