Teddington cricketer Dawid Malan has been rewarded for a productive winter with the England Lions by being offered the NAtwest T20 Blast captaincy at Middlesex this summer.
The Roehampton-born 28-year-old was the Lions' leading batsman during the winter T20 and 50-over series against Pakistan A in the UAE.
Malan has played 92 T20 matches for Middlesex scoring more than 2,250 runs in the process and he thanked managing director of cricket Angus Fraser for giving him the chance to lead the side.

“I consider it a great honour to have been appointed captain of the Middlesex CCC T20 Blast side," he said.
"It’s a dream come true for me and I would like to thank Angus Fraser and the club for putting their faith in me.
“Since winning the Twenty20 trophy back in 2008, as a team we have struggled with consistency in this format.
"With the exciting squad we now have here at Middlesex however, combined with the signing of some quality, experienced overseas players, we’ll be looking to change our fortunes in the competition this year.”
James Franklin has been given the captaincy of the club's Royal London One Day Cup squad, while Australian overseas player Adam Voges will take charge of the team's County Championship interests.
“What we have attempted in the past in limited-overs cricket has not produced the results we wanted, so, following Eoin Morgan’s decision to step down, we have decided to try something different," added Fraser.
"This structure will give different individuals the chance to grab hold of, energise and direct a team in a different form of the game.
“I believe, looking forward, the times when one person will captain every team at a club will be rare. Times have changed from when Mike Brearley and Mike Gatting captained Middlesex.
"The expectation to compete in every competition is high and tolerance levels, when this fails to happen, are lower. The cocktail creates an environment where the pressure of doing all three jobs would quickly wear a person down."
He added: “Dawid is at a stage in his career where he is ready to take on greater responsibility. He is an extremely good T20 player and has a lot of experience. He is keen to lead and I want to encourage that.”
