Spencer CC coach Alain Jason has been recognised for outstanding services to grassroots cricket by the Sky Sports ECB coach education programme.

Former West Indies player, Michael Holding, presented a special coaching certificate to Jason during the fifth Investec Ashes Test Match against Australia at The Kia Oval last month.

Jason was given the exclusive opportunity to attend the Test Match as part of the Sky Sports ECB coach education programme.

Twelve coaches met with Holding during the lunch break at The Kia Oval, all of whom were being acknowledged by the programme’s Reward and Recognition scheme.

More than 100 coaches from across the country will be recognised during the 2013 season, which comprises of a series of on-pitch presentations throughout the summer by various cricket legends and the Sky Sports broadcast team.

Jason founded the colts section at Spencer CC along with his brothers Max and Henri in 1991 and had a pivotal role in running the section during its formative years.

Since then, the club has grown to boast a junior membership in excess of 800 colts.

Jason was also solely responsible for setting up the women’s section at the club in 2001. He was also a founding member of the NEC Surrey Colts League in 1993.

He has been involved in the administration of the club holding many posts including vice-president, club chairman, colts chairman, Hon treasurer, Hon auditor, coaching director , kit manager, welfare officer and women’s coach over the past 25 years.

Jason said: “The support you get from the scheme is tremendous. I have learned a great deal from it and it has provided me with some fantastic opportunities to meet some top cricketers”.
