Ashtead CC are celebrating after collecting a £50,000 cash windfall from the Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.
More than 1,300 sports projects across the country have received National Lottery funding through Inspired Facilities, part of Sport England's Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme.
With its share, Ashtead will build a new pavilion at its second ground based on the site of the old Parsons Mead School.
Ashtead CC already help more than 300 juniors each year with cricket coaching and development, and this new complete facility will enable even more cricket coaching to take place in the community.
Club chairman Richard Laudy said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can start the build for the new pavilion.
"Our junior section goes from strength to strength and securing the funding to allow the development of our second ground will help us continue our strategy for building a home for junior cricket in the community, whether boys, girls or in the future even disability cricket.”
Sport England’s chairman Nick Bitel said: “A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in Surrey.
“With investment now on offer from our Inspired Facilities Fund until 2017, we look forward to supporting many more sports clubs in the South East who play such a vital role in grassroots sport.”
