It's rare enough for one game of cricket to end in an exact tie, but for it to happen twice in one season between the same two teams is remarkable.

Back in the second game of the Surrey Championship Division One season on May 18, both Beddington and Old Whitgiftians scored 164 in the limited overs format to share the points.

In the longer version this Saturday, they achieved the feat again, this time both scoring 212 all out to claim seven points each.

"Both teams are pretty evenly matched but for both games to end in a tie is remarkable," said Old Whitgiftians skipper Ali Raja.

"Unfortunately, our bowlers didn’t bowl as well as they did in previous weeks but the lads pulled together at the end to get the tie."

In the game in May, Old Whits let victory slip through their fingers when they had three wickets left and needed only one run to win, a similar situation to the one Beddington found themselves in this time around when they needed three runs for victory with three wickets remaining.

But Elliott Chmielinski (16) and Tom Bevan (100) were dismissed by Luke Fisher and Murtaza Hussain to reduce them from 210-7 to 210-9.

Daniel Lewis took two runs to level the scores but when David Lester attempted a quick single in the next over, he was run out when Brendan Taylor's throw was deflected on to the stumps by Fisher.

Beddington remain in sixth just ahead of Old Whitgiftians, who host Farnham this Saturday, while Beddington go to bottom club Dulwich.
