Robbie Grabarz claims high jump bronze medal at London 2012 Olympic Games

It was an enjoyable night for Robbie Grabarz in the Olympic Stadium as he picked up a bronze medal in the high jump.

The Enfield-born competitor had no trouble clearing 2.29m but was unable to progress beyond that, suffering three failures at 2.33m.

He was not alone in picking up third place however, sharing the honour with both Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar and Derek Drouin of Canada.

Russia’s Ivan Ukhov (2.38m) took the gold medal while America’s Erik Kynard (2.33m) picked up silver.

And Grabarz was delighted to be adding an Olympic medal to his list of achievements.

“If someone had told me this was possible in January I wouldn’t have believed them. It seems a little bit like fiction at the moment,” he explained.

“It has been good. I am European champion and I’ve got an Olympic bronze medal. I am happy. I’m very proud and it has been fantastic.”
