Flanker Luke Wallace is a young Quin with a bright future, according to television pundit Dean Ryan.

The former Tonbridge School student shone last season when more established players were away at the World Cup and picked up a nomination for the Premiership Rugby Discovery of the Season award.

Wallace made 15 starts and nine appearances off the bench for Quins, scoring four tries in the process, but found his position in the first XV blocked by skipper Chris Robshaw and Maurie Fa’asavalu.

But Ryan believes this year could see the former JP Morgan Sevens star can establish himself for years to come at the Stoop.

“I don’t see a lot of changes in that group because they were so successful last year, but I think Wallace is going to be a real star,” said Ryan, who developed young talent as Gloucester’s director of rugby.

“He played some decent rugby last year and looking at it from an England perspective there’s not a huge amount of sevens around.

“Wallace has got to kick on this year to be a regular in the Quins side. It will be tough for him, with Chris Robshaw in there, but he is flexible and needs to play in the big games now.”

The J.P. Morgan Premiership Rugby 7s Series kicks off on 13 July at Harlequins, with rounds at Sale Sharks and Gloucester Rugby, and the final at Bath Rugby. Visit: www.jpmorgan7s.com to find out more.
