World record holding Test wicket taker Muttiah Muralitharan could soon be terrorising batsmen in Richmond and Twickenham this summer.
The 40-year-old Sri Lankan legend, in England to play for Gloucestershire in the Friends Life T20 competition, has been confirmed as a registered overseas player for Middlesex County League Division Two Wembley.
With Wembley competing in the same league as Twickenham and Richmond – who host the north London outfit on August 18 and July 14 respectively - there is a strong chance the off spinner will feature on the Green and at Old Deer Park.
Muralitharan, who has not played first class cricket for more than two-years since quitting Test cricket in July 2010, has taken 800 Test scalps in a glittering career.
Twickenham CC secretary Dan Hough said: “There is no guarantee he will play, but I know Wembley are struggling in the league and they will be very keen to get him to play.”
Muralitharan was at Teddington Cricket Club on Tuesday to film a TV commercial.
