AFC Wimbledon are closing in on four new signings in the next week as they continue to rebuild their squad.

The Dons released 14 players this summer after their debut campaign in League Two but have already brought in three others – with midfielders Louis Harris and Stacy Long joining Curtis Osano at Kingsmeadow this week.

A centre half is currently mulling over a deal offered to him by the Dons, who also held discussions with another defender, a left back and a young goalkeeper this week.

“Things are looking positive and we are slowly getting there,” said assistant manager Stuart Cash.

“It is never easy in the summer as there are a lot of players out there and is about getting the right signings that will fit our club.

“We had a centre half in this week and, hopefully, we will know in the next four to five days if he will sign.

“As soon as that is done and we have an experienced centre half we can move on the left back, another centre half and a young goalkeeper we have been talking to.

“We are looking to fill those four positions.”

Long is a significant coup for the Dons as the 27-year-old has spent the past three years at Stevenage and played in their League One team last season having helped them get promoted from Blue Square Premier and League Two in his first two years there.

Harris, 19, was released by Wolves this summer having made just two senior appearances, both on loan at Notts County, and Cash was delighted with both additions.

“Louis is a good singing for us, he is a young player who has played reserve team football at Wolves and Terry has seen him a few times and really rates him, he will do a fantastic job for us,” he said.

“And Stacy has League One experience and a winning mentality having achieved things at Stevenage.

“Everything is coming together, Curtis is a big, strong, powerful and quick right back, Stacy is experienced and Louis is a youngster who can be anything he wants to be.”

Perhaps the biggest signing of the summer could be last season’s top scorer Jack Midson, who is close to agreeing an improved contract to stay at Wimbledon.

“Jack Midson is talking to the board,” added Cash.

“We are hopeful of something being sorted in the next few days as Jack wants to stay and we want to keep him, we do not want to sell him.”

Wimbledon fans won the club £20,000 this week through a competition run by Football League sponsor npower.

Supporters had to take to social media sites Twitter and Facebook to make the most noise for their club, with Dons fans generating more than 100,000 noise counts for their team.

They will now get to chose how the money is spent by the club, with the choices either improving fans’ facilities by providing match commentary for sight impaired fans and purchasing furniture for the main bar, renovating the Kingston Road End toilets or providing storage and other facilities at Kings College for the academy.
