Beavers land double boost to survival hopes

Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Mark Harper's Blue Square South survival hopes received a double boost this week from league rivals Sutton United.

The Beavers confirmed the arrival of defender Neil Jenkins and Joel Ledgister from Gander Green Lane on Wednesday after Saturday's 4-0 home drubbing against Easleigh.

Striker Ledgister, released by United boss Paul Doswell on Tuesday, had a successful loan spell at teh Beveree earlier in the season and returns to the club having failed to hold down a regular starting slot at United.

Left back Jenkins was allowed to leave the club last week after a succession of injuries had seen him slip down the pecking order at the play-off chasers.

But it was Ledgister's return that gave Harper the most pleasure this week having seen the livewire frontman score both for and against his men this term.

"I spoke to Sutton over the weekend just as an enquiry about Joel and his current position and was more than happy when they said he was going to be released," he said, "He's a good honest player who I hope will be with us for a very long time."

Jenkins was the victim of changes at Sutton that will see them switch to morning training sessions with a more youthful squad as they bid to mirror the full-time set-ups of othe rnon-League outfits - without breaking the bank.

The 30-year-old began his career at Wimbledon and joined League Two Southend Utd in 2002 - collecting an England under-20 cap while at Roots Hall - before eventually joining Eastborune Borough where he made over 170 appearances.

Meanwhile, Hampton have extended striker Tobi Alabi's loan from Millwall for a further 28 days.
