Shirin Irving made it two national title wins in as many weeks as she struck gold over the 75m hurdles at the England U15/U17 championships in Bedford, writes Matthew Kiernan.

The 14 year-old Croydon Harrier has been a revelation this summer after winning English Schools and English combined events titles this season.

She clocked 11.29 secsonds for the win, although she has clocked a national record of 10.85 this year.

In the U17 men’s category Omari Carr-Millar earned a silver medal in a highly contested 400m final in 48.66.

There was further success for the Harriers at the UKA Challenge Final in Birmingham.

Paul Ogun leapt to a lifetime best of 7.54m in the long jump to win silver, just three centimetres shy of gold.

The 22 year-old broke a nine year-old club record in the process.

Tunde Amuso also made the podium in the triple jump with a leap of 15.39m.

Elsewhere, Croydon’s seniors brought the curtain down on their Southern Athletics League second division campaign with a third place finish at Salisbury.

Although short of sprinters, the Harriers enjoyed maximum points in the men’s 1500m, 5000m, 2000m steeplechase and the javelin.

David White led the way with a double win in the A 1500m (4:24.5) and A 5000m (16:33.6), and was backed up with further wins from Mark Plackett (B 5000m, 17:00.22), Jaran Finn (B 1500m and A 2km chase) and Colin Oxlade (B 2km chase, 7:40.4). Robbie Powell also triumphed in the 800m in 2:00.7.

On the field, Richmond Baah returned to action in style with a win in the javelin (45.89m).

He was ably supported by Faraz Rafi who took the B-string honours (28.22m) who then took second in his preferred discus with a 35.50m effort.

The pick of women’s performances came courtesy of Amy Dowsett (A 100m, 13.4secs), Louise Locke (A 3000m, 12:11.2), Jenny Beecroft (B 3000m, 12:43.7), Mandy Rowley-Jones (A high jump, 1.30m), Linda Harrison (A hammer, 15.32m), Kim Thornton (B 200m, 2nd) and Alice Campbell (12.53m, B discus).

On the parkrun circuit, Sam Clayton made it two wins in as many weeks at the Lloyd parkrun, clocking 17:52 to take the spoils. Also in action were Miklos Foldes (7th, 21:57) and Terry Lapins.

At Roundshaw Downs, Omar Harhara was the first U14 boy home in 19:47 and was fourth overall. Josie Kavanagh was the first U14 girl in 23:38, while club compatriot Abbie Burrett was second in 25:21 in the same age group. Ellie Burrett was 67th while Vivian Slattery was one place further back.

At Banstead Woods, Dave Warren completed his 75th parkrun event, finishing 26th in 22:49.
