Mistakes cost Scottish again

London Scottish's Simon Amor bemoaned his side’s handling errors at the weekend and has warned his men they must improve if they are to beat Barking on Saturday.

A last-minute try condemned London Scottish to an opening day 20-13 defeat against Blackheath and the player-coach insists the unforced errors that plagued pre-season must stop.

“It was disappointing performance, we made a number of errors and turned the ball over far too many teams against a very good team,” he said.

“If you do that at this level you are not going to win games, it is that simple really.

“There were positives in that we created numerous opportunities but we didn't actually finish any of them off.”

Amor will be hoping that his team are more ruthless in the opposition 22 when they host table-topping Barking, who will be confident after thrashing Cinderford 34-7.

“I hope we reduce the number of handling errors for a start,” he added.

“Barking are a very good side, they are top of the table right now, they are playing some good rugby and it will be tough for us.

“We will have to step up a level for sure.”

One positive for the Scottish coach is he is just about looking at a clean bill of health in terms of his squad for the game on Saturday - but it could be a late call.

“We have a few small question marks around the squad which is always the case with higher league rugby but no one who is definitely out.

“We will assess where that is on Friday though and fingers cross that any niggles turn out to be fine.

“We are trying very, very hard and hopefully we will get that first win.”

London Scottish's next three fixtures: Sep 11 Barking (h), Sep 18 Roslyn Park (a), Sep 25 Redruth (h).
