Bees defender Karleigh Osborne has thanked boss Andy Scott for the tough love that means he is a changed man this season.
The 22-year-old delivered a man of the match display in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Griffin Park to continue an impressive start to the campaign for the former trainee.
Osborne had appeared on his way out of the club towards the end of last term after being challenged to earn himself a new deal following a training ground difference of opinion with the manager.
And the defender admits that proved the turning point for him.
“Last season was difficult for me because I wasn’t playing regularly and that is what I wanted to do,” he said.
“I played myself back into the team and have been more focused. It seems the tough love has worked out for me.
“I’ve come back from the summer with a totally different mindset. I’ve grown as a person and I think that is showing in my football.”
Scott believes the defender has been his side’s most consistent performer so far this term - despite playing alongside three different centre backs and in front of four different goalkeepers.
But Osborne thinks Sunday’s win is a sign things are beginning to come together for a side that has taken its time to gel in a difficult start to the league campaign.
“It is not always easy when things change around at the back, but I think I’ve shown I’m capable of playing with all our defenders,” he added.
“Ben has slotted back in like he’s never been away. He is a class A goalkeeper and will help us become more solid.
“It was a great performance from the whole team at the weekend and hopefully we can carry that on for as long as possible.”
