Simpson expects to stay at Bees for season

Striker Robbie Simpson has told Bees fans it is unlikely he will be returning to Huddersfield Town in January.

The 25-year-old, arrived at Griffin Park on a season-long loan deal from the Galpharm Stadium and has started his Brentford career in fine style with four goals in six games thus far.

There is a call-back clause in the contract allowing the Terriors to recall the former Coventry City man when the transfer window re-opens in four months time.

But Simpson, who only completed the move hours before making his Bees debut at Carlisle United in August, is confident that won’t happen having watched Town snap up Crystal Palace’s Alan Lee last month.

“I knew there was interest from Brentford early in pre-season, but I wanted to stay at Huddersfield and show I was past my injuries,” he said.

“The manager said I’d done brilliantly, but was still looking to bring in two more strikers. When Andy Scott got in touch again I was happy to sign.

“There is a call back clause, but they can’t use it until January at the earliest.

“They’ve just signed Alan Lee - who I know the manager has been after for a while - and although you can never say never, realistically I can’t see them calling me back. It is unlikely.”

Simpson was plagued by a thigh problem last season having switched to Yorkshire from the Sky Blues, but he has slipped into the Brentford starting line-up with ease And he is looking forward to his current hot streak continuing.

“Last season took its toll on me mentally. It felt like I didn’t know what to do with myself really, “ he added.

“Being quite a big signing for the club that season it was frustrating to say the least. I’m so happy to be playing and injury free again.

“It couldn’t have started any better for me and hopefully I can continue - touch wood - injury free and I can keep banging them in.”
