Teddington Masters Swimming Club head coach Adam Acland refused to take the plaudits despite rounding off an excellent couple of months for the club with a stellar performance at the Nokia Thames Swim.

Acland claimed a first place finish in the 30-34 age group to finish seventh overall in the three kilometre event, which took place for the first time between Hampton Court and Kingston Bridge earlier this month.

Newcomers to open water swimming Kate Hembrow and Jo Stoller, also impressed as they claimed third and fifth place finishes in the 25-29 and 30-34 age groups respectively.

Kate’s dad and fellow Teddington member Dave, who swam at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico, easily dispatched the competition, winning the 60-64 age group by a whopping nine minutes to come in 27th overall.

But, despite his own achievements, Acland, was quick to prasie the efforts of his team-mates.

“I've got huge praise for everyone who had a go, and just want to show how proud I am of them,” he added.

The success followed last month’s British Gas Great London Swim - held in the Royal Victoria Dock last month - where Hembrow senior finished first in his age group.

Teddington Swimming Club has also seen success at national level, enjoying a healthy medal haul at the 2009 National Inter County Team Championship in Sheffield Teddington will next be in action at the Great Big Open Water Swim at Dorney Lake in Eton on September 4.
