Scottish runner Bruce Raeside won Sunday’s Julie Button Memorial 10km road race organised by Elmbridge Road Runners on Sunday.
Raeside clocked 30 minutes, 20 seconds, to finish five seconds ahead of New Zealander Paul Martelletti, who posted a personal best.
The pair had fought a private battle around the streets of Walton, with Herne Hill’s Brian Wilder finishing some two minutes behind (32:11).
Walthamstow’s Nick Shasha (32:59) was fourth, ahead of Belgrave’s Will Cockerell (33:08) and the host club’s Sean Renfer (33:27).
Thames Hare & Hounds’ Matt Jones (33:48), paying a brief visit to the UK from Hong Kong where he now works, was 12th.
Sutton Runners’ Luis Veteran (34:08) was second veteran, while the leading finishers for Clapham Chasers and Ranelagh, James Ellis and Stephen Whitehead, both clocked 34:26.
Leading vets: Over-45: 1 Knut Hegvold (Belgrave) 34.52, Over-55: 1 Ian Kitching (South London Harriers 35:21), 2 Hugh Saxby (Hercules Wimbledon) 38:07, Over-60: 1 Geoff Newton (Tadworth) 39:35.
Belgrave’s Samantha Amend (36:35), comfortably won the women’s race from Thames Hare & Hounds’ Lucy McAllister (37:18) and West 4 Harriers’ Anna Critchlow (38:12).
Sonia O’Sullivan, running for Thames, was fifth (38:42), with Ranelagh’s Marie Synott-Wells (40:03) first over-45 runners.
