Mick Sullivan insists he has no regrets about his summer move from Merstham, despite admitting his frustration at Leatherhead’s stuttering season.
The Tanners welcome Merstham to Fetcham Grove this coming Tuesday as the clubs clash for the first time since Sullivan’s switch.
And despite his former club gunning for a play-off spot while Leatherhead sit in the lower reaches of the Ryman Division One South, the Tanners boss would not change a thing.
He said: “If you look at the league table you might expect me to say I made the wrong decision but I do not see it like that.
“Of course I would like to be above them in the table, but it has been a lot harder here than I thought.
“It has taken a long time to steady the ship and I am still trying to stamp my character onto the club.
“As much as Leatherhead is a great club there were a lot of internal player problems when I arrived and I have not been able to correct them yet.
“A lot of the players that I bought in to make a difference have hardly played - Mark Simmonds for example has played twice and Michael Morgan just three times.
“My remit when I came here was to organise things and prepare for a challenge next season, but I wanted more than that.
“But things have not gone how I anticipated and although that is infuriating, I am happy here.”
Leatherhead first welcome Fleet Town this weekend as they look to banish a miserable December that saw six games postponed.
And Sullivan admits he simply want to see the Tanners in action.
He added: “We still have 24 league games to play and if we get many more postponements things could get ridiculous.
“The Ryman League gives no slack to anybody and you have to have finished you season by their set date (April 24).
“My fear is we could end up playing three or four games a week until April and that would be a nightmare.”
Leatherhead’s next three matches: Jan 9 Fleet Town (h), 12 Merstham (h), 16 Corinthian Casuals (a)
