A road cycling team made up of AFC Wimbledon fans and club phsyio Mick Rayner finished 12 out of 24 teams at the inaugural 24-hour road race championships at Dunsfold Aerodrome last weekend.

D2E/Velo and Blue, sponsored by Merton graphic design company D2E – Down to Earth, also raised more than £1,000 for Action Medical Research and the Dons Trust.

Decked out in the famous yellow and blue colours, the team were lead off at mid-day on Saturday by their youngest rider Will Glover-James in temperatures touching 90F.

After the first four hours, the team were in 10th place and riding in 45-minute shifts to conserve energy.

Hourly rides were the norm in the cool still of the Surrey night, as the team consolidated their position.

At daylight and the heat the team reverted back to 45- minute rides and, just before mid day, Mark Cassaroto completed the team’s fastest lap of the day seven minutes 45 seconds round the 4.59-mile circuit.

Russell Smith completed his fastest lap at the end of the ride in 8:53
