Andy lays down marker for Beijing

Molesey Boat Club rower Andrew Triggs-Hodge helped the British men's four bury some significant ghosts with a World Cup gold and the points trophy in Munich on Sunday.

Triggs-Hodge, who stays on course to land a berth in the squad for the Beijing Olympics in August, was part of the crew who lost their world crown in the blue riband event eight months ago at the same venue.

But the quartet put that memory behind them, as Team GB claimed five golds and three silvers to lift the World Cup points trophy.

The Camelot-backed men's four were machine-like in their march to the line, with Tom Lucy, Steve Williams, Peter Reed and Triggs-Hodge - in as a substitute for the injured Tom James - storming home to win by a huge margin.

"It could not have been better today. That is the best start to the season we have had yet," the 29-year-old said.

The triumph - a good guide to the team's Olympic credentials - followed an easy win in the semi-finals on Saturday, in which Britain dominated from start-to-finish over the 2,000m course.

"We found unity and set a good rhythm," Triggs-Hodge added.
