Sutton United have made three eye-catching signings as they prepare for their second season in the Vanarama National League.

United manager Paul Doswell has lured former Braintree and Borehamwood midfielder Kenny Davis to Gander Green Lane where he will be joined by ex-Dover Athletic duo Ross Lafayette and Moses Emmanuel.

Davis, who scored twice against Sutton in last season’s FA Trophy third round replay for Borehamwood, spent six seasons at Braintree where he was integral to the club’s rise from the Conference South to the brink of the Football League when they were beaten in the play-offs by Grimsby Town in 2016.

Lafayette and Emmanuel will be familiar faces to Sutton fans having played against the U’s for Welling and Bromley respectively during successful promotion campaigns for those clubs.

Both players combined well at Dover last season where they proved to be a formidable attacking force.

Emmanuel grabbed a hat-trick at Gander Green Lane in November when the Kent club thrashed an understrength Sutton side 6-0 just days before the U’s hit the headlines with an FA Cup win over League Two Cheltenham Town.

All three players have made an impression on Doswell with their performances against Sutton in recent seasons and the U’s boss is delighted to have acquired three such highly sought after players.

He told the club’s website: “We’ve analysed carefully how we need to improve the current squad, and a goal-scoring midfielder with the ability also to contribute assists was an area that we highlighted.

“Kenny is football intelligent and will fit into our dressing room ethic.

“Speaking to Danny Cowley [Lincoln City manager] about Kenny’s time with him at Braintree confirmed all I needed to know, that we’re getting a top player and person.

“Ross was excellent for Dover last season and was a great foil for Ricky Miller [league’s leading scorer].

“He’s a strong target man who also contributes plenty of goals.

“He will provide the team with a different option and the thought of Max Biamou or Adam Coombes playing alongside him is exciting.

“Moses is someone I’ve admired greatly over the years, and even more so because he had the most annoying habit of scoring every time he played against us.

“He is versatile in that he can play as a second striker, or in a three up front, and we feel his pace and movement will add to our attack.”
