With no last-minute signings to look forward to, AFC Wimbledon must target a first league win of the season when Chesterfield come to town on Saturday.

There are two ways of looking at our past couple of league games - we’ve “only drawn two” or we’re “undefeated in two”.

It depends who you are, but whatever the case, conceding that last minute equaliser at Rochdale was a kick in the proverbials.

It’s not fair to blame the goalkeeper for the last minute goal, and he had gone 183 minutes without conceding before the 184th minute heartbreak - a marked improvement.

What’s more obvious, however, is that the ball hasn’t been utilised at the other end of the field.

AFC WIMBLEDON: Samuelson lauds FIFA ruling as chance for home-grown talent

Andy Barcham is AFC Wimbledon’s top scorer this season, so it’s good to see midfield contribute, but where are our strikers?

This week Lyle Taylor signed a new contract, and with – presumably – better terms he will hopefully find that spark again.

Farce or no farce, the mid-week Checkatrade Trophy win over Swansea City’s U37s will have done the dressing room some good.

A convincing 3-0 win, with Dominic Poleon finding the net twice, was just the ticket and may just give cause for positivity ahead of the weekend.

Some 461 fans went along on Tuesday night, and if that atmosphere was subdued, Saturday’s atmosphere against the Spireites will be anything but.

Chesterfield made the controversial decision of signing Ched Evans in the summer.

Despite the hostile reception he will certainly receive from the crowd – as he will expect – he has scored four goals in five games, and is a danger-man we must neutralise.

While we need our backline to be bullet proof, the best way to counter the threat is to score more goals than they do.

Lyle, Tom, Tyrone, Dominic… how hard can it be?
