Both the performance and the result against Bishop’s Stortford were excellent, and will hopefully give us a springboard to get a nice run of form going.

For spells in the first half there were definitely concerns that it would be another one of "those games" where we would dominate, but fail to win courtesy of missed chances and a slice of luck for the opposition at the other end.

However, the defence were solid throughout and never gave Stortford a sniff, other than the one good save Ross Worner had to make towards the end of the game.

Crucially the pressure was taken off in the last few minutes with the second goal, well finished by Ross Stearn and beautifully assisted by Tommy Wright.

It has to be said that Wright looks to be an excellent footballer from what we have seen of him so far.

A mention also has to go to Stuart Fleetwood, who had a great game despite criticism he has received over the past few weeks.

He got ridiculously unlucky with his effort that came off the bar and post (although it did not matter in the end) and with Tom Lovelock in the Stortford goal making a very good save in a one-on-one situation.

It was evident particularly in the first half that the Stortford defence did not want him to be running at them – performances like this on a consistent basis will bring about a goal sooner rather than later.

So it’s on to Havant, who have started to put some form together after a tough start.

It certainly won’t be an easy one, but United can be confident if they play as they did against Bishop’s Stortford.
