Herne Hill Harriers coach Steve Bosley reckons their national title winning youngsters prove the club has an immense depth of talent at its disposal.

The U15s team of Lily Newton, Lucy Olsen and Alex Brown beat all comers to win the National Road Relay title at Sutton Park in Birmingham last weekend.

Olsen ran the fastest leg of the day, covering the 3.9km course in 13 minutes 38 seconds.

Newton came home in 14:15, and Brown completed the terrific trio in 14:31 to regain the title the club last won in 2013.

The U13 girls’ team of Rosie Hammond, Amy Miller and Maisie Collis were also on the podium collecting team bronze medals.

Meanwhile Harriers’ U13 boys’ team of Toby Reynolds, Jaden Kennedy and Jacob Solon also ran superbly to come close to winning their own medals, only denied in the final 400m of their relay.

Completing the club’s weekend in the Midlands were the U15 boys in eighth, the U17 women in 15th and the U17 men in 23rd.

Bosley said: “The club’s aggregate placing was within the top five clubs in this important national competition, demonstrating the depth of our youth talent.

“We were delighted with the superb team and individual performances.”

He added: “I am sure they provided a timely tonic to my fellow coach James McDonald, who is recovering after a recent operation.”
