Tony Chaplin is preparing for the toughest fight of his career this weekend when he continues his quest for a title shot in the Queensbury Boxing League.

The undefeated 29-year-old from Carshalton will face Irishman Cathal Geraghty on the undercard of Saturday’s Grudge Match fight night at Epsom Downs racecourse.

Chaplin’s last appearance in June ended a two-year hiatus from competing to record an impressive second round stoppage victory over Guildford brawler Kieran Wallis.

After taking a short break from training, the Carshalton man is already targeting another big performance in front of his army of supporters.

“The better my opponent the better I will perform, and from watching Cathal in action I believe I’m going to have to be at my best to beat him,” he said.

“He looks like a tough, come forward-type, fighter who can also box off the back foot as well.

“He’s won and defended titles outside of the league so that tells me he needs to be respected.”

He added: “Throughout my career I’ve never been able to build up momentum and show my true potential, but this time around I’m ready to stay busy and put everything I have into boxing.

“Style wise I’m confident I’ve got a little bit more than Geraghty in every department, and I’m ready to step it up now and put in my best performance.”

Also returning to action after taking time out from competing is former Queensbury champion Lee Cannon, who will make his long awaited return when he takes on Essex rival Cameron Paul.

The Mitcham stylist’s last league appearance ended in stalemate against Wallington rival Lawrence Lofts in February 2014 when the judges were unable to separate the pair after a close fought battle.

After taking a long rest to concentrate of his career outside of the ring, Cannon has set his sights on recapturing his title status.
