Harry Aikines-Aryeetey accepted his fifth place finish in the men’s 100m final at British Athletics Championships in Birmingham last Sunday.

In his first outing of 2015 since recovering from a hip injury, the 26-year-old Sutton & District sprint star earlier won both of his qualifying heats, clocking 10.29secs and 10.33secs respectively, before recording 10.34secs in the final.

Chijindu Ujah (10.10secs) claimed victory while Croydon’s European champion James Dasaolu followed in 10.24secs and Ojie Edoburun third in 10.27secs.

Athletics: Aikines-Aryeetey knows the value of his beauty sleep

“It’s all a bit of a blur, I did what I could and that was fifth so I’ll take that,” said Aikines-Aryeetey.

“It’s my first competition of the season, I haven’t had the best of preparations which is a bit frustrating, but it’s just one of those things where you need to turn around and be like.

“I can’t cry about it, I have to respect that everyone else has come here to run fast, but I didn’t run as fast as I would have liked.

"I wasn’t as competitive as I would have liked after my first two rounds so maybe that’s all I had in me but I’ve just got to keep on moving forward.”
