Battersea Ironsides’ National Junior Vase and Surrey Division One winning captain Colin O’Keeffe tells Tim Ashton about a memorable lads’ holidays, his first date and his wife’s interest in Rafa Nadal.

First car: I bought an Audi A3 in London a few years ago, I used to go everywhere on my motorbike. I paid about £5,000 for it and I still have it. I was always into bikes.

Sporting hero: My all time hero is Ireland captain and British & Irish Lions second row Paul O’Connell.

Lads’ holiday: It was Crete, 2002, after finishing school – I was 18 years old. I have many memories, but none clean enough to go in the paper. Picture 40 lads from Cork in Ireland from Christian Brothers College School, and a similar number of girls from the girls’ school down the road and you’ll get the idea.

First pin up: Anna Kournikova – fantastic. It was the eyes, but in reality I was a massive tennis fan. I take my wife to Wimbledon every year to watch the tennis... but then again, she likes Rafa Nadal.

Surrey Comet:

Pin up: Anna Kournikova was O'Keeffe's bedroom wall favourite because of her... eyes

Date: I don’t really remember, but it was probably at a local disco at Gorbys nightclub in Cork.

Medal: I won a basketball medal in school – we had a yearly league against about five or six teams.

Try: I have been playing since I was 11 years old (I am 31 now), so I guess it must have been when I was playing for Sunday’s Well in Cork at around that age. Drunk: I did not drink until my mid-20s. I was 25 and I was in Egypt on holiday with my wife. I really let loose on loads of cocktails and the following morning I was as sick as a dog.
