Epsom boxer James Hamilton is brimming with confidence ahead of his next assignment in the Queensbury Boxing League, as he prepares to step through the ropes on home soil.

The 25-year-old returns to action on May 9 at the Epsom Downs Racecourse when he takes on league debutant Sean Burt in the light cruiserweight division.

And, after tasting victory on his own debut in February, Hamilton is eager to add another win to his record in front of his hometown fans.

Hamilton’s introduction proved much harder than he expecting when he was forced to grind out a points victory over Tomas Eirocius.

He has since switched camps from Gauntlett Gym to like2box to improve his fitness, and Hamilton is now 100 per cent confident he will be at his peak when the first bell sounds.

He said: “ My debut in the league was more of a brawl than a boxing match as Eirocius just came straight at me from the opening bell, but it made me realise I needed to really pick up my fitness.

“For this fight I’ve been working 10 times harder on my fitness with head coach Ian Johnson, and I’m feeling very confident coming into the fight.”

Hamilton’s clash with Burt will feature on the undercard of the huge British middleweight title showdown between defending champion Gareth Gardner and challenger Lloyd Miller, and Hamilton is looking forward to being a part of one of the biggest nights of boxing ever to be staged in Epsom.

“I can’t wait to box in Epsom on such a big event, and I’ve been out there promoting the show and my fight and I think it’s going to be a big turnout and a very exciting night of boxing,” he said.

Hamilton’s contest against Burt will take place in the Oaks Arena of the Duchess stand.
