Wimbledon Park was buzzing with tennis activities at the weekend, with two charity tournaments and a clinic with championships head coach Dan Bloxham and former world number one Martina Hingis raising hundreds of pounds.

A total of 48 campers queuing for tickets helped to raise £535 for the Royal Marsden cancer charity by taking part in a round robin tennis tournament.

They signed up on the day with organiser Andrew Hoffman, going head-to-head in doubles matches on the courts not far from the queue.

Also raising money for charity was a tournament for broadcasters and journalists covering the championships.

A total of £200 was raised in memory of Elena Baltacha in a fun tennis tournament with reporters from all over the world.

Miss Baltacha died in May this year from liver cancer aged 30.

Organiser Rob Castorri said it was the twentieth annual event of its kind and the winner picked up a tennis racket signed by Roger Federer.

Mr Castorri said: "The purpose is to get journalists to meet up and have a good time.

"It was about having fun and raising money."

The third event in Wimbledon Park on Sunday was a tennis clinic, featuring former world number one player Martina Hingis with All England Club head coach Dan Bloxham.

It was held at the Wimbledon Club, with dozens of club members and guests taking to the courts for a two-hour training session under the watchful eye of the experts.

Miss Hingis held rallies with players, giving tips and advice on the best way to serve a ball, how to be ready for action and have good footwork.

Refreshments were served in the club afterwards.
