Former Hampton School PE teacher Paul Farbrace has been described as a natural by his former employers.

The ex-Kent and Middlesex wicketkeeper was named as new England head coach Peter Moore’s assistant this week.

Farbrace, previously head coach of T20 World Cup winners Sri Lanka, joined Hampton in 1993 as a cricket coach and became a teacher before leaving in 1997.

“His teaching skills shone through even at that early stage of his coaching career,” said Jon Cook, the schools’ head of cricket at the time.

“His ability to communicate what each individual boy needed to work on was instinctive and his coaching sessions were always interesting and full of fun.”
