Dowson: Ks need four more wins for play-off charge

Ks boss Alan Dowson has demanded four more wins to make the Ryman Premier League play-offs.

A late Matt Drage header snatched a 2-1 win over Bury Town on Saturday before Kingstonian were held 0-0 at Grays Athletic on Wednesday night to stretch their unbeaten run to eight games.

Only four points separate the five teams behind runaway leaders Wealdstone, and Dowson, right, reckoned the play-off race will go to the wire.

“It is dog eat dog now,” he said.

“If you had given me this position with six games to go at the start of the season, I would have snatched your hand off.

“We are unbeaten in eight now, which is our best run since the start of the season, so we are coming into form at the right time.

“I think four more wins will probably get us into the play-offs, but we’ll go out to win them all.”

Ks travel to Cray Wanderer on Saturday before next weekend’s crunch clash with promotion rivals Lowestoft Town.

Wanderers have shipped more than 100 goals this term, but Dowson insisted there was no pressure on his men to rack up a cricket score at Kingsmeadow.

“They have beaten AFC Hornchurch and Grays in the past two weeks, so they have improved,” he added.

“It is going to be tough.”

* Kingstonian have taken steps to slash ticket prices to £5 for the crunch visit of play-off rivals Lowestoft Town at Kingsmeadow on April 12.

Town are four points behind sixth-placed Ks in the Ryman Premier League promotion race.

“It is a fantastic gesture from the board, because they could have put the prices up for a game like this,” said boss Alan Dowson.

“A big game atmosphere will only help us.”
