Mizon is feeling the hunger pangs again
Tadworth’s Jimmy Mizon is hungry again, and he is stepping back into the boxing ring to prove it.
The middleweight boxer returns to action in the Queensbury Boxing League on April 19 on the undercard of the Resurrection fight night.
His opponent is yet to be announced, but whoever it is, he faces a new-look Mizon.
Last time out, in February last year, Mizon lost on points to Dan Spencer – but the former Marine claimed the man in the ring was not the real Mizon.
He said: “After my last fight I’ve had plenty of time to refocus myself and rediscover my hunger for boxing, which had completely deserted me.
“Against Spencer it was not really me in there, and since that loss and the birth of my son all I’ve been really focusing on is looking after him and getting back into training.”
He added: “Since I’ve been back in the gym I’ve been feeling sharp, fit and ready to go.”
Prior to Mizon’s departure from the league he was known for his unforgiving, relentless style of pressure fighting, but the young father now believes people will see a different side to his repertoire when he gets back into the mix.
“I don’t want to give too much away, but I’ve been working on a lot of new things in the gym since I’ve been back,” he said.
“I’m hoping I can show people that I can box as well as fight and on the night I am confident it will all come together.
“Once I get this fight out of the way I want to start to establish myself in the league once more.
“Ultimately I want to get back up to the top of the middleweight division and get my titles back.”
Also in action on the undercard is lightweight boxer Beau Jeffrey, also from Tadworth, who will be looking to bounce back after narrowly missing out on winning his league debut back in February.
The 18-year-old will face Suffolk debutant Tom “TNT” Sumner as he bids to record his first victory.
Mizon and Jeffrey’s contests will take place in the Oaks Arena at the Epsom Downs Racecourse.
