On a good weekend for Hercules Wimbledon, three runners broke club records.

Continuing her build-up for the Virgin Money London marathon, Claire Grima broke her own club record in the Reading half-marathon on Sunday.

She took almost a minute off her previous best time in finishing 20th in the women's race in one hour 19 minutes 46 seconds.

Her previous best of 1.22:43 was set when she finished fourth in the Brighton half-marathon in February last year.

Elsewhere, Alison Purnell set new club figures for the over-50 age group in the Self Transcendence 10km road race in Battersea Park on Saturday, clocking 1.17:56.

In Saturday's Wimbledon Common parkrun 5km event, Lisa Thomas broke her own Hercules Wimbledon veteran women's over-45 record for the second successive weekend in winning the women's race in 20:30.

Her time took 13 seconds off the previous best she set seven days earlier.

Elsewhere, Liam White headed home a 237-strong field to win the Bristol parkrun in 17:10, and Peter Riches and Zac Purnell were top two finishers in the junior parkrun 2km event in Wimbledon Park on Sunday in 7:46 and 7:53 respectively.

This weekend, two Hercules Wimbledon's cross-country runners will be representing Surrey in the UK Inter-Counties cross country championships at Cofton Park, Birmingham, on Saturday.

Grima runs in the senior women's race, with Matt Gibbons competing in the boys U15 event.

Two other Hercules Wimbledon runners Oscar White (boys U13) and Cassian Hyde (men's U17) have been named as reserves.

Hercules Wimbledon's track and field training sessions take place at Wimbledon Park athletics stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6.30pm and Sunday mornings at 10.30am. Further details from coaching coordinator Maurice Sharp on 020 8337 8707.
