Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club's marathon-running mum Claire Grima continued her build up for the London Marathon by smashing her life-time best at the Brighton half-marathon on Sunday.

She also broke her own Hercules Wimbledon club record in the process.

Claire was the second woman finisher as she crossed the line 75th out of almost 7,000 runners in one hour 20 minutes 43 seconds.

Her time sliced 50 seconds off her previous best and club record set at Bristol last September.

it also ranks 36-year-old Claire seventh in more than 35 UK veterans this year, and 14th in the 2014 UK women's rankings.

It was a family day at the seaside for the Grima family as husband Dave finished ahead of his Mrs in 36th place in 1.17:45, just 10 seconds outside his best time for the distance.

His brother Alex was 670th in 1.34:24, just under 10 minutes outside his best time set in Brighton last year.

A fourth Hercules Wimbledon runner in the race was Andrew Blake who was 231st in 1.26:35.

Also on the road, Hercules Wimbledon's over-45 veteran Lisa Thomas made an impressive debut over 10km in the Valentine's road race at Chessington on Sunday, where she was the first finisher in her age group in 41:40, and ninth overall in the women's race.

Top Hercules Wimbledon finisher was Kieran White who took sixth place out of more than 400 runners in 33:34, with a third Hercules Wimbledon runner, Richard Clark, 167th in 46:43.

It was Thomas's second race of the weekend - on Saturday, she was first woman finisher in the Wimbledon Common parkrun in 21:20.

The race winner as her Hercules Wimbledon clubmate Phil Glynn, who clocked 18:32, 25 seconds ahead of the second finisher.

Charles Hampden-Smith was the second veteran over 50 finisher in 21:19.

On the track, Hercules Wimbledon's over 65 veteran Pete Giles won two gold medals in the Southern Counties veterans indoor championships at Lee Valley Athletics Centre on Sunday.

He won the 1,500m and 3,000m in 5:59.47 and 12:30.27 respectively, and also took the bronze medal in the 800m in 2:50.05.
