If Surbiton Ladies are to reach the WHL Premier Division play-offs this term, they will have to do it without Amy and Vicky Bryant, writes
Stuart Amos.

The pair, a key part of head coach Brett Garrard’s squad since their arrival at Sugden Road in 2010, quit the club this week, but are yet to sign elsewhere.

But Garrard, who confirmed the addition of Thea Cosham, Annie Tutty and Eleanor Jolly to his 30-strong playing squad, is not overly concerned.

“We have had a pretty big turn around of players over the past few years and there are other players who have contributed just as significantly as them,” he said.

“We are never reliant on any one player anyway.”

Surbiton – currently third in the table – will also be without their GB internationals for Saturday’s trip to struggling Olton and Sunday’s crunch clash at second- placed Reading.

Meanwhile, Surbiton’s men warmed up for their return to MHL Premier Division action at Wimbledon this Sunday, with a 7-2 win at Teddington.

Goals came from Chris Gassick (three), James Royce (two), Michael Watt and Nicholas Parkes on the sand-based pitch at Broom Road.

Long Ditton-based Surbiton are chasing a top-four finish in 2014, and are through to the last 16 of the Euro Hockey League.
