Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club's sprinting brothers both lifted medals in the South of England indoor championships at Lee Valley Athletics Centre on Sunday.

Rechmiel Miller, 15, twice improved on his lifetime best in sprinting his way to the gold medal in the men's U17 60m and soaring to the top of this year's UK rankings for his age group.

He gave an impressive display going faster in each of his three rounds.

In the first round he clocked 7.13 seconds, the second fastest of the 48 competitors in the opening round.

Miller then set himself up as favourite for the title in speeding up to clock 7.06 to win his semi-final race and post the fastest times of all 24 runners, three-hundredths of a second faster than the second best sprinter.

He also smashed his previous personal best of 7.12 set in the Surrey indoor championships last February.

However, he still had fuel in the tank for his third race of the day, the final. There, he raced home a comfortable winner in 6.95, the fastest time by a British 17-year-old this year, to win by six-hundredths of a second.

It was his debut appearance in the South of England indoor championships although he did take the 100m bronze medal in the South of England championships at Ashford, Kent, last August.

Meanwhile, his younger brother Chad, was also battling his way to a medal-winning performance in the boys U15 60m.

Chad, 13, improved on his lifetime best of 7.98 in the heats of last year's Surrey indoor championships in winning his heat at Lee Valley in 7.61, the fastest of the 20 first round sprinters.

He also emulated his older brother by going faster in each subsequent round - he speeded up to 7.55 in his semi-final, the second best time of the 12 runners and then went even faster to clock 7.49 to take the silver medal in the final.

Fellow Hercules Wimbledon sprinter Ralphael Buckle just failed to make the final in finishing fourth in semi-final in a lifetime best of 7.61.

Earlier, he has won his heat in 7.69, the second fastest of the first round qualifiers.

However, Buckle, 14, twice improved on his previous best of 7.73 set in winning his event at an indoor meeting at Sutton earlier this month.

Despite managing to post a lifetime best time, Max Mondelli just failed to get among the medals in the men's U20 60m.

He was third fastest of the competitors in winning his heat in 6.97, was second in his semi-final in 6.90 where he as fifth best and then finished fifth in the final in 6.86 to improve by one-hundredths of a second on his previous best set at Lee Valley earlier this month.
