Latest Hercules Wimbledon news: Sharp is looking sharp in Holland
Hercules Wimbledon’s Matt Sharp was the top British finisher at the Eindhoven Marathon in Holland on Sunday.
Sharp, 34, raced through heavy rain and gusting winds to clock two hours, 33 minutes, eight seconds to finish 38th.
Meanwhile, his dad, Maurice, 68, narrowly missed out on a medal in the Surrey veterans cross country championships in Richmond Park on Saturday. Sharp completed the 6km course in 27:49 to finish sixth in the over-65 category.
Two of the 15-strong Hercules Wimbledon contingent in Richmond Park managed to get among the medals.
Former international race walker Estle Viljoen-van Schalkwyk raced herself to exhaustion to take the silver medal in the women's over 40 category in 25:50.
Hercules Wimbledon's oldest competitor, Alan Turner, who qualified for the age category in July, took the bronze medal in the men's over 70 age group in 30:43.
Alison Purnell just missed out on a medal when she finished fourth in the women's over 50 category in 26:43.
Monika Crouse was ninth in the over 35 race in 27:56, and Dave Betts was the top Hercules Wimbledon finisher in the men's over 60 category in 27:43.
The top finisher in the men's 10km championship race was Peter Lee who was seventh in the over 45 category in 38:23.
This weekend, Hercules Wimbledon host the opening 2XU Surrey Men's cross country league Division One meeting on Wimbledon Common.
The young athletes 2.5-mile race is at 2.30pm while the seniors set off for their 5m battle at 3pm.
The race starts and finish near the Thatched Cottage in the middle of the common while the race headquarters is at Belgrave Hall on Denmark Road, Wimbledon.
Hercules Wimbledon are also in action in the opening Surrey Ladies League race at Lightwater Country Park, Bagshot.
Hercules Wimbledon's track and field training sessions take place at Wimbledon Park athletics stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6.30pm and Sunday mornings at 10.30am. Further details from coaching coordinator Maurice Sharp on 020 8337 8707.
